چکیده

This paper investigates low cost matching network for high impedance ultrasonic transducers. Matching the output transmitter impedance to high impedance transducer is important to maximize the transfer of power and improve the transmitting efficiency of the transducer, and so achieve better signal-to-noise ratio. In NDT ultrasonic applications based on piezoelectric transducers it is usual to introduce a tuned inductor, normally fitted in an experimental way, in order to cancel out the reactive component of the impedance of the transducer. More elaborated tuning solutions are well known, but in systems employing several transducers, such as arrays, is not feasible to connect all the transducer elements via a transformer or a complex network to their transmitters. Therefore, when the number of components is critical, if the system works in a narrow frequency range, this paper proposes to employ a simple L-C matching network with only one inductor and one capacitor. This topology is evaluated, by means of equivalent circuit analysis, computer simulation, and experimental assessment. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. PACS: 43.38.+n; 43.58.+z

Air-Coupled Low Frequency Ultrasonic Transducers and Arrays with PMN-32%PT Piezoelectric Crystals

Air-coupled ultrasonic techniques are being increasingly used for material characterization, non-destructive evaluation of composite materials using guided waves as well as for distance measurements. Application of those techniques is mainly limited by the big losses of ultrasonic signals due to attenuation and mismatch of the acoustic impedances of ultrasonic transducers and air. One of the wa...

Impact Analysis of Variation in Geometrical Features on Intrinsic Characteristics of Capacitive Micro-machined Ultrasonic Transducers

Capacitive Micro-machined Ultrasonic Transducers (CMUTs) are the ultrasonic devices which produce better features in contrast to piezoelectric transducers. The intrinsic parameter of CMUT varies with the variation in geometrical dimension of the device. The cavity height and the radius of the CMUT with circular membrane is varied in the lumped parallel plate model for its impact on the paramete...

Piezoceramic Element Design and Fabrication for Ultrasonic Transducer of Gas Meter

Ultrasonic transducers play a significant role in generating and receiving the acoustic waves in ultrasonic flowmeters. Depending on the required accuracy, the ultrasonic transducers can be installed either in one pair or more in an ultrasonic flowmeter. The main part of an ultrasonic transducer is its piezoceramic element. In this work, four piezoceramic elements with different diameter to thi...

Design of Embedded Piezoelectric Transducers for Structural Health Monitoring in Concrete Structures

In the last decades the field of structural health monitoring and damage detection has been intensively explored. Active vibration technique allows to excite the structure at high frequency vibrations which are sensitive to small damage. Ideal candidates for the generation of high frequency (ultrasonic) signals are piezoelectric PZT transducers, due to their small size, low cost and large bandw...
